A: To support students and faculty in all stages of the research and discovery process

Empowers students, faculty, and staff to find, use, share, and preserve information that supports their teaching. learning, research, and scholarship.

The University Library is a full partner in the academic mission of the University of California. We discover, evaluate, organize and preserve information for the benefit of our faculty and students. We work with other libraries in the University of California to leverage our resources and bring a richer universe of scholarly information to the campus community. We push the Library beyond its physical boundaries to serve our constituency in the dormitory, office, classroom, and laboratory. We educate students to become discerning consumers of information who turn hard earned knowledge into outstanding scholarship. We collaborate with our faculty to develop and deploy innovative tools, services and collections that enhance collaboration, resource sharing and creative expression.

UCSD's mission as an example:

Mission Statement The mission of the UCSD Libraries is to be leaders in providing and promoting information resources and services to the UCSD community when, where, and how users want them.  (from their mission statement and Strategic Plan for 2006-2008.
