Great Ideas from Comparable Universities/Vendors

 

 

 

Part of the homework assignments for the strategic planning session was to look at comparable Universities or vendors that might have great ideas for us to pursue.

 

 

-     UC buy-on-demand

 

-     Dual/reciprocal library desk staffing

 

-     MBooks – obtain digital content of what’s been scanned w/ link in local catalog (go to local catalog first); available to campus users (via authentication)

 

-     McGill:  self check-out

 

-     SJSU: recycling in stacks

 

-     Cafes in all libraries

 

-     One-stop technology devices transfer data from online catalog to cell phone/stacks device

 

-     Late pm Reference hours (e.g., 9-11)

 

-     NCSU:  Info Commons; web presence – forum:

            -  Games/tournaments

            -  Check out wide array of electronic devices

 

-     Net trail evaluation and update for iGen

 

-     Virtual presence (Second Life)

 

-     Comp Sci “capstone” – library-specific games contest

 

-     White boards and wall  (lazy susans)

 

-     UH:  Other/additional staff backgrounds

 

-     RFIDing  furniture multifunctional instructional spaces

 

-     SCSI :  Portable walls, movable furniture

 

-     Limited service desks co-located
