- National Index to Chinese Newspapers & Periodicals. It provides access to citations of articles in about 6,500 titles of newspapers and journals published from 1857 to 1949 *** Note: this is an index, you will need to use the UCSC Interlibrary Loan service to order the articles you want.***
Full-text database for hundreds of works in classics; history, including the history of Taiwan; law; literature; medicine; and religion. Major titles include Er shi wu shi 二十五史 [Twenty-five dynastic histories], Shi san jing 十三經 [Thirteen classics], Taisho Tripitaka 大正新脩大藏經, Tai ping yu lan 太平御覽, Wen xian tong kao 文獻通考; Chinese input software required to search.
Si ku quan shu was compiled between 1773 and 1782 under the edict of Emperor Qianlong 乾隆. It is the most comprehensive collection of Chinese scholarship up to the 18th century. Full text articles and works are available for viewing as scans of the original documents or transcribed text versions.
Compiled in the Kangxi years of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and covering a wide range of subjects, including many rare classic titles that are otherwise unavailable. It contains 6 collections (彙編), 32 standards (典), 6,117 titles, in a total of 10,000 volumes.
The database incorporates local histories, official documents of the Ming and Qing Dynasties as well as Nan-Ming. The Encyclopedia of Taiwan covers the time span from the Tang Dynasty to the Japanese occupation period. It covers history, geography, local customs, politics, economics, sociology, laws, and culture.
Japanese Language Databases
- Kikuzo Visual II (Asahi Shimbun) - This database contains 5.8 million + articles in full text from the following Japanese sources: Asahi shinbun newspaper (1945-present);AERA weekly magazine (May 1988-present); Shūkan Asahi weekly magazine (April 2000-present; news section only). Text is in Japanese.
- CiNii - Searchable database of articles and citations to articles from scholarly journals, magazines, and university bulletins published in Japan.
