CQ Researcher - current topics, provides Pro/Con arguments authored by experts

Gale Virtual Reference Library - Encyclopedia articles from a variety of viewpoints: including legal, social, and business communities

Highly scholarly sources:

Web of Science - large comprehensive source of scholarly articles in sciences, social sciences, and Humanities.  Provides the references of and links to articles which cite influential journal articles.

Google Scholar - search engine of scholarly sources

 

Scholarly and Popular Sources:

Academic Search Complete - provides wide range of sources and views: general, popular, and scholarly.  Allows filtering for Scholarly sources

Business Source Complete - large database of business and industry sources.  Allows filtering for Scholarly sources

Lexis Nexis Academic - enormous full-text source of newspapers, includes both U.S. and international news, wire transcripts, etc.

 

Government Information:

CQ Weekly Report - Provides clearly written, balanced, (variety of views considered) discussion of issues and legislation before Congress.

usa.gov - search engine of the Federal government; helpful for determining which agencies are most involved in specific issues

 

Other Sources:

grist.org - Entertaining and informative site of environmental information, including clear and logical discussions of controversial and confusing issues
